Spring Term - Watery World

As the children have taken the Autumn Term to fully settle into Reception, the routine and expectations, the Spring Term provides  opportunities for the children to develop their independence skills in a number of ways. 

The children complete more Branching Out Challenges independently throughout the week alongside their teacher lead tasks. The 6 Areas of Learning and Experience are still developed using specific tasks and Branching Out Areas and Challenges using the Froebelian principles of learning through play. These can be seen on Seesaw, so make sure you are connected to your childs seesaw page via the app. 

In Language Literacy and Communication, we still focus on learning letter sounds and letter formation in handwriting sessions, as well as looking at poetry and rhyming words. We continue to look at and read lots of different stories and retell them using Pie Corbett story maps and actions, along side learning about instructions. 

In Maths and Numeracy, we focus on counting to and beyond  10, recognising and ordering the numbers by completing fun activities. We start learning to count in 2s as well as using money to pay for items and much more.

In Health and Well-Being, our Jigsaw Units are "Dreams and Goals" and "Healthy Me"

In PE, we focus in dance, and learn Welsh folk dances for the Eistfeddfod.

In Humanities we learn about the weather, how rain is made and where water comes from. We look at places we can find water in our local area such as Top Rock and streams. We learn all about the importance of recycling and why we need to recycle to keep the Earth healthy.

In Science and Technology, we focus on the forces of push and pull, float and sink. To link with our Humanities learning, we learn about boats and how they move, travel and float. We work in teams to make boats using sustainable items.

During Expressive Arts, we continue to use the art skills we learnt in the Autumn Term in the Branching Out Areas and Challenges.

We focus on Dance and Music, exploring different types of dance, music and exploring musical intruments

At the end of the Spring Term, we learn all about Easter in Jigsaw RE. We complete lots of fun activities around Easter as well.
