Croeso i Dosbarth Chwech
Welcome to Dosbarth Chwech!
Our Topic for Spring Term is Crazy Climates!
Within each Area of Learning and Experience we will be focussing on:
Humanities:
Our Humanities focus is Sustainability, where we will be exploring the impact of human activity on different climates and reflecting on solutions to reduce our carbon footprint in Wales. Meanwhile, we will also discover how deserts are formed and investigate the climate within these regions of the world. Researching examples of famous hot and cold deserts, finding out how climate change is affecting these areas and whether humans can live within these climates.
Science:
Within Science we will be working our way towards participating in a courtroom style debate, where learners will be using their research gathered from real life experiences at Parc Stormy. The experiences will allow learners to understand energy transfer and witness examples of renewable energy sources. We will experiment with wind, solar and tidal energy to visualise how this energy creates force and make note of the advantages and disadvantages. This will support our debates, deciding which one we think Wales should use, with learners role playing a judge, villagers and researchers.
Technology:
This term we will be participating in an Adobe workshop, with a series of live lessons, where the learners can follow steps to create animations, using the 'create a drawing' section and a range of tools to design their own backgrounds and images. They will then bring these drawings to life through the animation effects.
Expressive Arts:
Music and dance are the focus points for Expressive Arts, where the learners will have the opportunity to create a dance routine exploring different body movements to represent the weather in groups. In addition, we will be continuing to use garage band to create beats, with loops and searching for sounds. Also, we will be practicing a song for the Eisteddfod performance in Welsh.
Health and Wellbeing:
Our PE sessions will alternate between dance and further developing our football skills as a result of the Cardiff City Partnership that we had last term, because the learners have lots of avenues they still want to explore and also they are practicing and reflecting on the skills that they learnt.
The Jigsaw unit will focus on Dreams and Goals within the first half of term and then move on to Healthy Me.
Mathematics:
We are learning to develop our explanations within Mathematics and Numeracy, because if the learners can explain their methods and become confident with how they can reach the answer, then they will be able to apply this to a range of questions. Therefore, we will be focussing on recognising symbols, finding patterns, understanding the concept and answering worded questions within decimals, multiplication, division, fractions, pie charts, volume and shape.
LLC (Languages, Literacy and Communication):
The text we are focussing on during the first half of Spring Term is The Green Lady of Caerphilly Castle, because the learners will be retelling this traditional story with a range of language techniques. Within the second half of Spring Term we will move on to poetry, in order to write a high standard poem for the Eisteddfod, following the theme of 'Open the Door to Wales'.
