Meithrin

Nursery/Meithrin

Mrs Davies and Mrs Smith welcome you to the Nursery class at Cwmaber Infants.

We are excited to meet the new children as they start their learning journey at Cwmaber Infants.

Continuous Provision

To promote independence within the Nursery Classroom and throughout the school, we follow the Froebelian Principle of Learning by:

Playing, Exploring and Creating

To showcase this, we have multiple areas within each classroom that promote independence in these ways

School Readiness Expectations for Parents and Carers at Cwmaber Infants

At our school, we aim to give every child the best possible start to their educational journey. To help your child settle smoothly and develop independence and confidence, we ask for your support in preparing them to be "school ready."

Below is a guide to what we expect children to be able to do independently when they join Nursery.

Nursery Expectations

In Nursery, we focus on encouraging independence through simple daily routines. Before starting, children should be able to:

  • Use the toilet independently
(including wiping, flushing, and washing hands)
  • Put on and take off their coat
  • Take their snack from their bag and put it into the class snack pot
  • Drink from an open cup

These basic skills help build your child’s confidence and allow them to feel secure and capable during their time in Nursery.

How You Can Help at Home

  • Practice these skills together in a fun and encouraging way
  • Build these routines into daily life (e.g. getting dressed in the morning, snack times at home)
  • Give plenty of praise and celebrate progress, no matter how small!

We appreciate your support in helping your child become confident and independent as they begin their school journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us - we’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.

We have snack on a daily basis so please send fresh fruit or vegetables in with your child, in a pot labelled with their name. All children have access to milk each day but if they do not like milk they can bring in water in a bottle instead.

Do not forget to connect to your child's Seesaw account for weekly updates of daily activities and news.

Children will have learning log home tasks every Friday, and we enjoy looking at them in class together. Please can you make sure the books are returned by Thursday so we can get them ready for the next task. We also introduce the Oxford Reading Tree scheme of books to Nursery children in preparation for teaching them to read.
