Mark Making
Outdoor Mark Making
In our nursery, we love to take mark making outdoors! Our children enjoy exploring different materials like shaving foam, glitter, leaves, and more to create their own special marks and patterns.
Why do we have outdoor mark making?
Sparks Creativity and Imagination: Using a variety of natural and sensory materials encourages children to experiment and express themselves in unique ways.
Develops Early Writing Skills: Mark making is the foundation of writing. By practicing with different tools and textures, children build control and confidence in their hand movements.
Engages the Senses: Materials like shaving foam and leaves provide rich sensory experiences that make learning fun and memorable.
Connects Learning with Nature: Using natural objects like leaves ties children’s creativity to the outdoors and helps them appreciate the world around them.
Encourages Exploration and Discovery: Children learn through trial and error, discovering how different materials make different marks.
Supports Physical Development: The varied motions involved in mark making strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Our outdoor mark making area invites children to play, explore, and build essential early literacy skills - all while enjoying fresh air and nature!
