Literacy and Numeracy

Dedicated Literacy and Numeracy Areas

In our nursery, we have special Literacy and Numeracy areas designed to support children’s early learning in fun and engaging ways. These spaces include carefully planned challenges that children can explore and complete independently, helping to build their confidence and skills at their own pace.

Literacy Area
Our literacy area introduces children to the first set of sounds from the Jolly Phonics scheme, a fun and effective way to help them begin recognising letters and their sounds. Children also get to meet the beloved characters from the Oxford Reading Tree series, which encourages a love of stories and reading from an early age. Activities include sound matching, letter recognition, and simple storytelling games.

Numeracy Area
The numeracy area offers hands-on activities focused on counting, number recognition, shapes, and patterns. Children can practice counting objects, matching numbers, sorting shapes, and creating patterns-all through playful challenges that make learning math concepts enjoyable and meaningful.

By providing these dedicated areas with structured yet independent challenges, we empower children to explore literacy and numeracy in ways that build curiosity, problem-solving, and a strong foundation for future learning.
