Class R
Welcome to Class R!
We are the Reception class at Cwmaber Infants. Our class teacher is Miss Harris and our class HLTA is Mrs N Davies.
Our Themes are:
Branching Out Challenges and Areas
To promote independence within the Reception Classroom and throughout the school, we follow the Froebelian Principle of Learning by:
Playing, Exploring and Creating
To showcase this, we have multiple Branching Out Areas within each classroom that promote independence in these ways
Nurturing Independence at Cwmaber
At our school, we aim to give every child the best possible start to their educational journey. To help your child settle smoothly and help independence and confidence, we ask for your support in preparing them to be "school ready"
What does "School Ready" look like at Cwmaber?
Children entering Reception build on their independence skills they developed in Nursery. If you are unfamiliar with the Nursery expectation, please look on their class page.
In addition to the Nursery expectations, Reception children should also be able to
- Use zips and button on their clothing - especially coats and uniforms, especially jumpers and cardigans
- Put on and take off shoe independently and place them on the correct feet (Velcro shoes are recommended for ease)
- Packing and unpacking their school bag independently
- Using cutlery independently
- Opening food items in their lunchboxes if having sandwiches in school
- Peel fruit independently
- Able to complete toothbrushing for 2 minutes
- Blow nose and dispose of tissues correctly
- Tidy up after themselves
- Recognise their own belongings and place them in their own lockers
These skills will ultimately help your children access the classroom and school environment to allow them to reach their full potential and become confident, resilient and independent learners.
General Class Infromation
PE will be on a MONDAY. Children can come dressed in their PE kit on a MONDAY. We are focusing on lots of different disciplines within PE throughout the year.
Autumn: Gymnastic
Spring: Dance
Summer: Games and Athletics
We will be doing lots of reading in class so please ensure books are sent with children weekly or more than weekly. We also send home phonics family sounds, word boxes and tricky words for children to practice at home too.
Learning Logs tasks will be provided fortnightly on a Friday and are required back in school by the second Wednesday. These tasks will often involve handwriting, numeracy or literacy skills the children have been focusing on during that week.
We complete lots of Reading Eggs and Doodle Maths activities in class, we recommend that children access these once a week at home to practice their key number skills and literacy skills.
These skills include:
Recognising letters and their sounds
Blending sounds to make words
Reading with growing independence
Recognising numbers
Counting reliably
Ordering numbers
Finding one more and one less
Counting on from different numbers
and much more
We send the children log ins home so these platforms can be accessed via a phone, iPad, tablet or computer. If you have any issues logging in, please don't hesitate to ask for your childs log ins again.
We have online work pages via Seesaw, where various tasks and independent Branching Out Challenges are completed by the children. Please make sure you have successfully logged in and are linked to your childs page.
