Welcome to Year 2

 

We have 27 pupils in Year 2 and the staff are Mrs Evans, Mrs Cribb and Mrs Hughes.  We usually have PE on Tuesdays.

 

Our topic this term (Summer) is "A Summer of Sport"

Our sub topic in Year 2 (Progression Step 2) is “Aber Athletes” so we are using lots of Health and Wellbeing skills. Our literacy focus is non chronological report writing and poetry. We are learning lots about fractions, statistics and measuring. Our Science and Technology focus is Forces and particularly what forces do we use in different sports. Our Humanities focus is rules and what rules do we have in different sports. In Expressive Arts we will be focusing on the artist Vincent Van Gogh and creating our own sunflower pieces.  

 

We feel that it is important that our have lots of opportunities to learn in authentic contexts so we will be taking part in lots of sports activities an using our numeracy skills across the curriculum. 

 

As part of the topic, we will also have focus Rights Respecting schools events such as Eid, themed sporting weeks such as Wimbledon and the Tour De France, sponsored penalty shoot outs raising money to support global charities and sports day. 

 

Learning Logs are given out on a Friday in preparation for the following Friday. We appreciate your support with reading, spellings and learning logs- Please make comments wherever possible. 

 

Our online programs are currently  Doodle Maths, Reading Eggs and Purple Mash so please use these to support your child's learning at home. They are free to practise as much as possible outside school, in order to reinforce number, literacy and digital skills.

 

Pupils are encouraged to bring in a piece of fruit and a water bottle every day, in a labelled container. You can also buy a 30p banana from our banana shop.

 

Please clearly label all cardigans and jumpers.
