Block Play

Why We Use Block Play in Nursery

Block play is a fundamental part of our nursery curriculum because it supports children's learning and development in many important ways. Through playing with blocks, children engage their creativity and imagination, building structures and stories that reflect their ideas and experiences.

Blocks also help develop key skills such as:

  • Fine motor skills: Picking up, stacking, and balancing blocks strengthens hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

  • Problem-solving: Children learn to plan, test, and adjust their designs, developing critical thinking.

  • Math skills: Blocks introduce concepts like size, shape, counting, and spatial awareness.

  • Language development: As children build and play together, they practice communication, sharing ideas and vocabulary.

  • Social skills: Block play encourages cooperation, negotiation, and teamwork.

Overall, block play is a rich, hands-on learning experience that supports holistic development and fosters a love of learning in our youngest students.
