Autumn Term - Magical Me

Autumn Term - Magical Me!

During Autumn Term, we take the tie to get to know the children in Reception, what they like and how they learn.

Through the 6 Areas Of Learning and Experience, we provide children with a wide range of activities and opportunities where learning can take place. We follow the Froebelian principles where children learn through play in the Branching Out Areas of the classroom where they complete activities and challenges set out for them.

In Language Literacy and Communication, we focus on learning letter sounds and letter formation in handwriting sessions. We look at lots of different stories and retell them using Pie Corbett story maps and actions.

In Maths and Numeracy, we focus on counting to 10, recognising and ordering the numbers by completing fun activities.

In Health and Well-Being, our Jigsaw Units are "Being Me In My World" and "Celebrating Differences"

In PE, we focus on gymnastics and movement.

In Humanities we learn about how they have changed since since they were babies and what this change looks like. We also discuss the future and how they grow up. Additionally, we look at the importance of rules and following them to keep ourselves safe in school.

Science and Technology: We focus on material properties and what happens to materials in water. We also focus on team work when building different structures and the importance of working as a team.

During Expressive Arts, we focus on lots of art skills when painting, using clay and playdough. Our focus artist is Jackson Pollock and the children learn all about how art work is made in an active way.

At the end of the Autumn Term, we learn all about Christmas using Jigsaw RE, alongside taking part in a Christmas concert, having a Christmas Fete and other Christmas-y activities.
