Outdoors (Seize The Season)

In Year 1, children truly seize the season every day—whether they’re sharing stories and ideas in the log circle within our Forest School area, investigating seasonal changes and wildlife in the Explorer Garden, or fully immersing themselves in nature during our dedicated Forest School Fridays. These regular outdoor experiences are more than just enjoyable; they are a carefully planned part of our curriculum, inspired by the Froebelian approach to education.

Froebel believed that young children learn best through hands-on experiences, play, and a close connection with nature. At our school, we embed these principles by encouraging children to explore, create, question, and collaborate in natural environments. This not only supports their physical development and well-being but also nurtures curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

By taking learning outside, we give children the freedom to observe seasonal changes firsthand, solve problems through real-life contexts, and develop social and emotional skills in a nurturing, child-led environment. Parents can feel confident knowing that this approach helps build a strong foundation for lifelong learning—encouraging creativity, resilience, and a love of discovery from an early age.
